While a major debate is raging against proposed background checks in America, Belarussia wasted no time in placing an outright ban on online dating within its shores.

This ban is an interesting development for a simple reason, it clearly shows that freedom of speech does not exist in Belarussia. Furthermore, it shows that the government cares little about economics, since online dating has been shown to generate substantial income. Any wonder why people can’t wait to leave the country?

The government seems to have instituted this regulation for a noble reason, which is to keep their citizens from migrating en masse. However, wouldn’t one say that the government is barking up the wrong tree on the problem? The proper question to ask would have been why Belarussians would want to leave home in the first place. A real solution would be to fix the economy so that people wouldn’t have a reason to seek emigrating to other countries in search of a better life.

Belarussians must feel a wave of deja vu blowing over them once again. In the old days of Soviet communism, Russians couldn’t obtain passports for International travel. The only way at that time to leave the country was to get married to a foreigner. The Russian block has broken ground since then following Mikhail Gorbachev’s effort in bringing the cold war to an end.

Belarussians have been able to travel freely to other countries, as long as they could show they had sponsors in the destination country. Unfortunately, the latest move against online dating throws Belarussians back almost 20 years. Just when the people are beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel, the government changes horses in midstream.

Why is the government so alarmed about its people relocating anyway? A good guess would be that a typical Belarussian abroad would be able to financially assist more people back home, than he or she could living in Belarussia. Keeping people in a place under duress does not hold water as a solution against emigration. As long as the imbalance between the world economy and Belarussia’s economy remains, human osmosis would continue to occur.

Lian had been meditating for many years before consulting with me for his depression. He had been part of a spiritual community that encouraged their members to turn to God through prayer and meditation whenever they were feeling any difficult or painful feelings such as anger, hurt, anxiety, or depression. He had been taught that Spirit would transmute his feelings for him and bring him the peace he sought.

Yet Lian was depressed. “I have faithfully practiced what I’ve had been taught, so why am I still depressed? What am I doing wrong?”

Lian was suffering from what is called “spiritual bypass.”

Spiritual bypass occurs when people use their spiritual practice as a way to avoid dealing with and taking responsibility for their feelings. Anything that is used to avoid feeling and taking responsibility for feelings becomes an addiction - whether it is alcohol, drugs, food, TV, work, gambling, spending, shopping, anger, withdrawal…and meditation. If, when a difficult or painful feeling comes up, you immediately go into meditation in the hopes of blissing out and getting rid of the feeling, you may be addicted to spirituality.

It all depends on what your intent is when you are meditating. People can meditate for two totally different reasons: to avoid pain or to learn about love.

If you are meditating to connect with yourself and your spiritual Guidance in order to learn more about loving yourself and others, then meditation is a good way to get out of your head and into your heart. It is a good way to connect with a loving part of yourself so that you can welcome and embrace your painful feelings and learn what you may be doing or thinking that is causing your own pain. When your intent is to be loving to yourself and take responsibility for your own feelings, then meditation can help you become centered and compassionate enough to do an inner exploration with your feeling self.

However, if you are using meditation to bliss out and avoid your pain, you are using your spirituality addictively. You are using your spirituality to bypass learning about and taking responsibility for your feelings.

This is what Lian was doing. Because he was avoiding learning from his feelings, he was continuing to think and behave in ways toward himself and others that caused him to feel depressed. Then, instead of exploring what he was doing that was causing his feeling self, his inner child, to feel depressed, he was meditating to try to get rid of the feelings.

In his work with me, Lian discovered that he was constantly either ignoring his inner child - his feeling self - or he was in self-judgment. The combination of ignoring himself - which he did primarily through meditation - and judging himself resulted in his inner child feeling unloved, unimportant, and unseen. Lian saw that if he treated his actual children in the way he treated himself - ignoring their feelings and constantly judging them - they would also feel badly and maybe depressed. But Lian did attend to his actual children’s feelings and needs. It was his own that he was ignoring and judging.

Lian realized that he was treating himself the way his parents had treated him. He was a much better parent to his children than his parents had been with him, but he was parenting his own inner child in the way he had been parented. He was not only treating himself the way he had been treated, he was treating himself the way his parents had treated themselves. As a result, he was not being a good role model for his children of personal responsibility for his own feelings, just as his parents had been a poor role model for him.

In the course of working with me, Lian learned the Inner Bonding process that we teach. He learned to welcome his painful feelings during meditation. He learned to quiet the self-judgmental part of himself and to treat himself with caring and respect. He learned to take loving action in his own behalf so that his inner child no longer felt abandoned by him. It was the inner abandonment that was causing his depression. He discovered that his depression was actually a gift - a way his inner child was letting him know that he was not being loving to himself. With practice, Lian learned to take loving care of himself and his depression disappeared. Now his meditation practice was no longer a spiritual bypass.

Whenever I talk with people that have expressed an interest in developing and enhancing their level of achievement, whether in their personal or professional lives one of the first things I ask them is how their library is coming along.

So now let me ask you, how many of you reading this right now are building a personal library? Be honest. Just so you know, I am not talking about books of fantasy or fiction here either.

What I am talking about are all the awesome resources that come in the form of self-help or the countless biographies of those that have made a difference in so many ways.

My friend it is through reading about and studying the lives and experiences of those that have ventured out in to the unknown in their own lives that we learn to use the knowledge that these people have to share with us.

When you are building your personal success library don’t be afraid to use a high lighter to make a quick reference to the things that made an impact on you. Re-read the books every so often. Listen again and again to the tapes that inspire you.

I am continually amazed at how each time I review something I find yet another priceless idea, or pick up some nugget of information that I can implement into my own life.

Do yourself a favor and make a solid commitment to a journey of lifelong learning. Commit to continuous growth in your life and you are certain to reap many a great reward.

To your success, Josh Hinds

I’ve been trying to comprehend a few things. I have been trying to understand the singular obsession the Minuteman Movement has about running all the “illegals” out of town. I am not convinced, as I have written in many of my columns, that they distinguish between “illegal or legal” immigrants. Some of the rhetoric rampaging through the Internet in 2004 made no distinction between the two groups. Though these anti-Mexican cowboys have not been harping so much about all Mexicans lately, they haven’t recanted their former diatribes either.

Here is what is irritating about these guys and gals. Why exactly are they all so fired up over the presence of a bunch of Mexicans in America who are working themselves to the bone trying to keep their extended families alive? Are they in America illegally? Most indeed are. Are they sending most of the money back to their families in Mexico? Most are. But what really galls me is how Foxnews has stood by these yahoos without so much mentioning a few pertinent facts. These hunters of Mexican flesh have been deified as patriots. They are those we all should emulate. They are true Americans, like our founding fathers, and are people we should respect and shout a hearty Amen in response to their actions!

Really?

Now, excuse me if I am beginning to sound singularly obsessed about this issue, but I simply cannot abide a news network, the conservative mouthpieceand please, let’s be honest and admit thatthat will not report the whole truth! Where is Foxnews’ Fair and Balanced and We report, You Decided network mantra when it comes to Chris Simcox and his boys? And to think I used to identify myself with what those people represent: Conservatism.

The co-founder of The Minuteman Movement, Chris Simcox, has said some pretty horrible things. To date, I have yet to hear him recant, take what he said back, ask for forgiveness, admit anything close to a change in his original ideology. And, do not miss this salient fact:

The man is the primary impetus behind what is going on, even as I write these words, in the current, newsworthy immigration debate. I give him that credit. He may be a lot of things, and indeed he is, but he is not a stupid person. He has played his cards brilliantly. He is the fox that has gotten into the hen house with impunity.

I wrote a book that a couple of agents are looking at. Its working title is, Essays and Thoughts on the Current Mexican Immigration Debate. In this unpublished manuscript, I make some points that no one, and I mean no one, in the conservative media seems to care about. The points are statements that Chris Simcox has made about Mexicans.

“Simcox seems to be of the ilk, like Glenn Spencer and his gang, who believe,

“…that migrant workers are not coming to America to find a better life for themselves and their families, but rather to reclaim the Southwest for Mexico.”[1]

Chris Simcox does not believe that the illegals are coming into America to work. In fact, he believes something much more sinister,

“”I’ve lived in Manhattan and I have lived in Chicago and I have lived in Los Angeles. These people don’t come here to work. They come here to rob and deal drugs,” Simcox said of Mexican immigrants. Oh, Jesus, it is unbelievable. I mean, we need the National Guard to clean out all our cities and round them up. They are hard-core criminals. They have no problem slitting your throat and taking your money or selling drugs to your kids or raping your daughters and they are evil people,” Simcox replied”.[2]

Evil people is how he describes illegals.

Simcox defines a vigilante as someone who “…is judge, jury, and executioner…”,[3] and denies that he and his group are anything similar to vigilantes. However, though he rightly defines vigilantism, and then goes on to insist that he and his group are not a bunch of vigilantes, here is what he says next,

“To repel this supposed invasion, Simcox called for drastic measures: a “committee of vigilantes” that would prowl the borderlands. The beauty of vigilantism, Simcox wrote, is simple: “We actually have more freedom to tackle the problem than the Government and law enforcement agencies that are bogged down in the quagmire of laws and restrictions.”[4]

Simcox says he is not a vigilante, yet what is needed for this invasion is a “committee of vigilantes” that would prowl the borderlands.

Remember how he defined vigilantism: “as someone who is …is judge, jury, and executioner”…

Other than this man being massively convoluted, is this not the scariest rhetoric?

Well, Simcox, according to recent news events, is prowling the borderlands and is not just “observing and reporting” but is detaining illegals crossing the border. He’s gone from just “observing and reporting” to “detaining”.

What’s next, Chris?

“To be nobody but myself, in a world which is doing its best night and day to make me everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting. - e.e. Cummings

I’ve written before about the “luxury” of self-care - shifting our mindset from self-care being something we HAVE to do, to something we GET to do, with the reward being more healthy and full lives.

But what if, deep down, you don’t think you DESERVE a healthy and full life?

What if, deep down, you’re punishing yourself with unhealthy habits because you think you deserve the side effects that result from them?

In my own journey towards self-care, I’ve found that there are three steps to self-acceptance. And I’ve noticed that, for me, they need to occur in this order:

First, I need to accept myself right now, who I am in this moment. I know I have more growing to do, and see the improvements I’ve already made.

Accepting myself as perfect doesn’t mean that I can’t make mistakes or have room to improve. It means that I accept the perfection of the version of myself I am today, knowing that I have the power to learn, grow and change. I’ve found that until I accept myself as I am now, I can’t begin to change.

The woods would be very silent if no birds sang except the best. Yiddish Proverb quoted in Finding Joy by Dannel I. Schwartz and Mark Hass

Second, I need to learn how to BE myself (most of the time). That means saying “no” when that’s my choice, not automatically doing what everyone else is doing just so I won’t look different. It also means challenging my lifetime of learned behaviours in favour of something healthier.

This is a very important practice. Live your daily life in a way that you never lose yourself. When you are carried away with your worries, fears, cravings, anger, and desire, you run away from yourself and you lose yourself. The practice is always to go back to oneself. Thich Nhat Hanh in Going Home

And finally, I need to learn more about myself and discover who I am truly am, at my core. I do this by observing myself, objectively and from a place of self-acceptance. Good things to notice? Things that make me sparkle and feel more alive; those will be closely linked to my “heart’s desires”, my “life purpose”, and my core values and beliefs.

Also good to notice are the things that get my blood boiling, that I can’t tolerate - if it’s in someone else, it’s usually a reflection of something I wish was different about myself. Or it’s the OPPOSITE of one of my heart’s desires.

From there I start the process all over again, of accepting this new version of myself that I’m continually defining, redefining and evolving.

TAKING IT TO YOUR SELF-CARE PLAN

Smile at yourself in mirror three times every day. I’ve read that just the act of smiling (and for triple the impact, laugh out loud!) shifts us into a more positive mood. Share those positive feelings with the person in the mirror.

Send yourself a THANK YOU card for something you did for yourself. When you do practice self-care, make a healthy choice or stop a negative thought in it’s tracks, reinforce that behaviour, help yourself feel good about it, and you’ll keep doing it.

At the end of the day, write down something that you wished you’d done differently and then forgive yourself for it (this would be a great addition to your gratitude journal).

If you’re not sure how to forgive yourself, imagine that your best friend was telling you about something they wish they’d done differently. What might you say to make them feel better? You could also spend some time writing about how you could choose to do it differently next time.

So many people have “blind spots”; behaviours or personality traits that are having harmful effects that they don’t even realize. If you’re aware of something that isn’t how you want it to be, that’s truly something to be glad about, because now you can move on and choose something different.

With a divorce rate in this country that approaches
50%, and a fairly sizable percentage of marriages that
aren’t particularly blissful, it’s difficult to avoid
searching for the answer to the battle of the sexes.

Would you like to stop searching?

We’ve moved through the old paradigm of getting
your needs met in relationships, and it has proven
itself to be a miserable failure.

Why?

Attempting to get your needs met in your relationship
causes some troublesome things to happen. First, it
causes you to focus mainly on your needs and not
on the desires of your partner. Secondly, it sets you
up for disaster, because it has you believing you
deserve something that may well not be delivered.

All across this great country of ours, battles are
raging between men and women: she needs to talk and
connect, and he needs his space and independence.

Who wins here?

The answer, of course, is that both lose because of a
flawed view of what a successful relationship is all
about. What also happens is that both people start to
blame the other for not meeting their needs.

For those who are really serious about success in
their relationships, it’s important to understand how
blaming your partner is an enormous problem itself. It
creates a bigger problem, and has you convinced that
you’re not part of the problem.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Blaming has never worked and never will. It may have
you feeling justified in your position, but it will
always hurt your relationship.

It’s particularly important to develop the realization
that your feelings can deceive you in your
relationship with your partner. This can be difficult
for people raised during the “honor your feelings” era
of relationships. Your feelings tell you things like,
“I can’t believe she could do something like that to
me,” or, “How could she treat me so badly?” These
feelings are the result of your own low self-esteem
and your own personal history of victimization.

While it’s true that your partner may treat you in a
way you don’t like sometimes, it’s not true that you
need to react to it with strong negative feelings.
These strong negative feelings are a reflection of
your own esteem issues.

These feelings also have a way of keeping your partner
engaged in the struggle with you so that you can
continue to blame each other. When you’re both engaged
in the struggle, you’ll believe that she needs to be
fixed. She’ll think the same of you. Nobody wins and
everybody loses.

This isn’t very smart or effective.

What would happen for people in their important
relationships if they gave up defending themselves and
believing their needs needed to be met? What would
happen if they worked at being kind and caring with
their partners?

I’ll tell you what would happen. They’d have great
relationships! After all, the only thing that you can
do to improve a relationship is to improve you.

So stop looking over at your partner and seeing all of
the flaws. Stop blaming them. They have issues just
like we all do. But if you see that person as a
collection of flaws, you’ll have no chance at a
successful relationship.

And it’s successful relationships in life that make us
truly happy.

Shopping for the right bra is like shopping for the right shoes. One can be enticed to purchase to keep up with the current fashion trend, price which is usually perceived to be of high quality and brand which usually appeals to the brand-conscious, at the expense of comfort. Instead, one should strive to attain the comfortable fit because bras are intimately worn and are usually worn more than eight hours in a day. The wrong size can cause a harmful effect on circulation as well as intolerable pain that can affect the way a person goes about in his/her daily life. Like shoes, discovering the right size is usually done through the trial and error method because there is a number of manufacturers in the market whose designs vary in their own ways. This is the reason why despite standard sizes established, the fitting of bras are diverse.

How does one go about in finding the perfect bra fit? Comfort derives from attaining the right fit. The bra band (and not the shoulder straps) is designed to support breast weight so that it should only fit securely to the chest below the breast. A simple rule to remember when shopping for one is to try to fit the bra before the actual purchase and avoid buying it if it hurts or if it doesn’t provide the primary function of wearing bras, which is to provide breast support.

On the other hand, if one wishes to go with a reliable brand Maidenform goes way back in history. It picked up its popularity when advertisements featured underwear models and carried the catchphrase “I dreamed… in a Maidenform bra.” Originally, their bras were designed to be only an accessory to their dresses in order to further improve the fit. However, the sheer genius of the invention of cups led the company to focus its creative effort on designing and producing bras that has captured the fancy of many women nationwide. Unlike the previous style known as “Boyish Form” (which makes breasts look flat), Maidenform bras provide not only the support expected but as well as enhance the natural shape of a woman’s breasts.

Maidenform has come a long way since it was first established in the 1920’s. It has responded well to a woman’s need for both comfort and fit like many other manufacturers in them market. Its strategic edge lies in the innovative design of their bras which exudes absolute femininity.

Maidenform’s collection offers variety in design as well as sizing for women with petite, average and full figures. Included in its collection are the following:

1.	Demi Cup - This offers adequate coverage and support through its underwire cup. With straps set widely apart allows the wearing of sabrina-cut or square-cut tops.

2.	Underwire - The underwire gives a natural lift to the bustline. Since it is seamless, it would look great under clothing.

3.	Soft Cup - Women who don’t prefer underwire can opt for this because it doesn’t sacrifice the primary need to support and give shape to breasts.

4.	Push Up - This lends confidence to the woman wearing it because it enhances the cleavage which emanates femininity.

5.	Full Figure and Full Support - It often happens that a full-figured woman finds it difficult to find the perfect bra to fit her. Maidenform designed this bra especially for women with full figures.
