Tips for Attending Art School

13 06 2008

Here are some tips that will help you survive and thrive during your art school adventure.

Make the most of your education
Attend every art class, and be on time. Keep your nose to the grindstone and do the best work you can do. Don’t wait till the last minute to do homework assignments. You are building the foundation upon which the rest of your life will be built. Make it a solid one! Be sure to get plenty of sleep. Get to bed early on school days and let your hair down on the weekends.

Be unique
Push your creative boundaries. Be careful not to plagiarize or reproduce anyone else’s work. Don’t be afraid of using up your creativity. The more work you produce, the more creative you will become.

Your portfolio
Always be thinking about building your portfolio. Work on each assignment as if it will end up in your portfolio. Push yourself to be the best you can be and don’t settle for mediocrity. Try to make each piece better than the last.

Purchased used textbooks if you can
Textbooks are one of the most expensive purchases you will make while in art school. Buy used textbooks if you can, as they are much less expensive. Sell the textbooks you don’t need.

Scholarships
Keep searching and applying for scholarships. Apply for scholarships for each term. Every little bit of extra money towards tuition will make a huge difference, especially if you have student loans to deal with.

Get involved
Join student organizations and groups. It is a great way to make new and lasting friendships.

Frugal living
Living frugally and on a budget is essential while you are in college. Make use of your Student ID! Many local shops, theaters, and restaurants offer discounts to students. If you have access to a kitchen, cook your own meals. Wait for sales and clearances before purchasing clothing, or visit store outlets.

Stay healthy
It is easy for college students to put healthy habits aside when the stress of college life mounts. Get plenty of sleep. Taking a nap between study sessions can help you retain the information longer. Eat healthy foods and drink lots of water. Try to exercise every day, even if it’s just going for a walk. Staying healthy will make you feel better and you will be more creative and productive.

Tips to Receiving An Online Accredited Degree

8 05 2008

While a great many individuals dream of getting a degree, it is sometimes seemingly impossible to interrupt your career and or family life to go back to school. Many of us, of course, have jobs and find that the traditional schedules offered by community colleges and universities often make it impossible for us to juggle our schedules to attend. Or perhaps we have family members, kids more than likely, that we simply must dedicate our time to. These are the very things that are making online college courses ever so more attractive. And don’t think for a second that the colleges and universities across the country aren’t recognizing this and responding in kind.

A great alternative for the person who desires to attend college classes is to go the route of an online accredited degree. This is a degree from a college or university with accreditation, which means it meets the state’s guidelines and is deemed to be every bit as credible as a brick-and-mortar earned degree.

The programs offered in the form of online degrees very greatly. It is advised that anyone pursuing this avenue of higher learning do their homework and learn as much as they possibly can before making their decision as to which classes to pursue. There is ample information to be had, so by all means request as much as you feel is necessary to obtain the information that you’re after. We must remember that there are so many degrees offered through the online accreditation process that your choices are becoming ever more diversified. Degree levels include Associates, Bachelors, Masters and Doctorates.

The advantages to getting an online degree are virtually endless. You do not have to commute and there is no need to schedule classes and reshuffle your life around someone else’s schedule. The only thing you really have to do is be on yourself to stay disciplined to get your work done.

I will again repeat what I said earlier because of its great importance. It is absolutely paramount that you make sure that the degree that you are pursuing and the classes that you are taking are indeed accredited. There’s nothing worse than wasting your time and money taking classes that you will not get credit for, unless of course you are doing it for your own edification.

If you were ever considering getting a degree to improve your chances of landing a job, or getting paid more, or even to perhaps change careers completely, now is the time to do it. The future is promised to no one and now with the advantages of online accredited degrees, there really is no excuse for not pursuing these wonderful opportunities. Most of these online classes are delivered by way of computer. Don’t be intimidated by this if you are not computer savvy. A simple computer and Internet connection will be more than enough to get you through. So now you know. No excuses, get out there and get it done.

How to Become a Paralegal in the State of California

29 04 2008

There are currently no licensing or certification requirements to become a Paralegal in California. However, it is wise to go the extra mile in order to make yourself stand out from all of the other job applicants. Consider obtaining one of the two voluntary certifications:
• Certified Legal Assistant (CLA)
• Registered Paralegal (RP)

Let’s review them in detail:

How to Become a Certified Legal Assistant (CLA)
Most people in California usually sit for the CLA exam. You must take and pass a two-day test administered by the Certifying Board of Legal Assistance and meet the established standards of the National Association of Legal Assistants, in order to use the CLA title. You are required to renew your certification after five years. Certification can be renewed every five years when you complete 50 hours of approved continuing education. You may also become certified as a California Advance Specialist (CAS)

Becoming a Registered Paralegal (RP)
In order to use the title of Registered Paralegal (RP), individuals must write and pass a test developed by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) known as the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE).
The certification can be renewed every two years for which you need to establish a proof of twelve hours of approved completion with continued legal education credits within the period of last two years.

What If There Were No Wars?

1 04 2008

What if the human raced evolved to the point that they understood that killing ones own species sets a very bad precedent? What if we could use some other method to solve impasses of nation state’s political will in negotiations? What if we declared wars on things, which are not threats of mankind against it’s own but rather events occurring against all nations and all peoples? What if we declared war on the short water supplies or a war on Poverty and human rights abuses? What if we simply said we have had enough of these Typhoons and Hurricanes and declared World War III on Extreme Weather, which kills tens of thousands per year? Declare War on the Weather; a genuine Herculean effort to stop Hurricanes like Katrina, Wilma, Andrew and Rita and a commitment to the human race to win that war once and for all?

How about a war on Cancer? What about a war on the confines of Gravity on our species, freeing us from being imprisoned on this little oasis and allowing us to travel the solar system and beyond? Why not declare a war on the issues, which truly plague us all? A war on Earthquakes and vibrational anomalies, which cause them and trigger Tsunamis, could be a start. We can start by declaring a war on lack of knowledge that affects the safety of the people and search for ways to predict them and eventually stop them.

We can still build weapons of war, but let’s pick a common enemy to build our team. Let’s pick those things, which threaten all life on Earth, things such as Asteroids hitting the Earth or plagues destroying populations. We can win these wars if we work together, without repeating the death and destruction of the past and we will be all the better for it. Think on this tonight, we can do this.
