Light Bulbs and Swimming Pools
8 12 2009There are as many different kinds of swimming pool lightbulbs as there are different kinds of swimming pools. Some swimming pool lightbulbs are relatively affordable while others can be exorbitantly priced. On the lower end, you can buy simple floodlights for $10 each. But some of the higher end bulbs can be priced in the $200-$300+ range.
Saving cash on swimming pool light bulbs matters more in this economy than ever. (We have a 10% unemployment rate in this country right now.) You can make your swimming pool light bulb needs more affordable by becoming a do-it-yourself light replacement guy, and you can also save your hard earned cash by shopping around for the best deals. In fact, changing the lightbulb is probably even easier than finding the best price.
You must always ensure that any lights you buy for your pool are meant to be used underwater. Besides that, make sure that the size and voltage of the lightbulbs you buy match what’s in your pool. Wattage is almost always 300 or 500, and voltage is almost always either 12 volts or 120 volts.
Your swimming pool should have come with paperwork describing what kind of lighting your pool requires. If you’ve lost your paperwork, you can remove the existing bulb and take it with you to the dealer.
But more important than anything else is making sure that the electricity is turned off before you start fiddling with the lightbulbs in your pool. The shock you’ll receive from forgetting to do that is one you won’t soon forget. (Assuming you survive being electrocuted, that is.)
